Officer's Cameron Girvin & Christopher Reese were tragically killed in the line of duty as a Virginia Beach Police Officer on February 22, 2025. The loss of these 2 outstanding officers is a huge loss to the department.


Cameron, 26, was a 2017 graduate of Gates Chili High School. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Jessica, who is expecting their first child. He was so excited to pick out baby names for his unborn daughter, he would call everyday with name ideas. They had just picked out the name the week before he was killed. In August of 2025 she will be welcoming their miracle baby Paisley Rae into the world.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Jessica expressed her grief and the immense love she shared with her husband. “Cam is my best friend and the fact that I got to spend the last 9 years loving and being loved by him is the absolute greatest treasure of my life,” she wrote. “To know him was to love him, to be known by him was to be loved by him. There is no one better. I will miss him every day for the rest of my life.”
While on patrol, Officer Girvin and Officer Reese observed a car with an expired plate and executed a traffic stop. During the traffic stop, the officers asked the subject to exit the vehicle, and the subject refused; when finally exiting the vehicle, the subject tussled with the officers and immediately produced a pistol, shooting both Officer Girvin and Officer Reese. While the officers were incapacitated and, on the ground, the subject shot each officer a second time and then fled the scene.
While we mourn his loss, we also remember the incredible life he lived, the countless lives he touched, and the unwavering dedication he showed family, friends and community. his unwavering dedication to helping, others, a calling he fulfilled every day as a Virginia Beach police officer.
Cam proudly served on the Virginia Beach Police Department since 2020, living out his lifelong dream. Cam lived life fully, could light up any room with his laugh and was extremely passionate. His kindness bravery, and zeal for life left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Chris was born November 1, 1994, in Lady of Our Lourdes Hospital Camden, New Jersey, to George Reese and Trisha Hogle. He grew up with multiple siblings and cared deeply for his family. Chris was heavily involved in all thing's baseball from childhood through high school. Never able to do just one thing, he was also in track, golf, and JROTC. He was such a sweet kid, always making others laugh and befriending everyone he met.
Chris graduated from Sterling High School and went on to Virginia Wesleyan University where he studied accounting. In 2019 he joined the Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office where he spent his time with B Team operations. And in 2020, the Virginia Beach Police Department. He excelled in his role, creating lasting friendships and a deepening passion for law enforcement. Chris was known to his fellow deputies as a hard worker with a goofy personality and a dark sense of humor. He fervently pursued opportunities for extra training, including VBSO’s ERT (Emergency Response Team).
In 2020, Chris met the love of his life Moriah through friends at work. They began an incredible relationship where his fierce loyalty and caring really shined through. Bringing out the best in each other, Chris and Moriah complemented each other seamlessly. They adopted their German Shepherd, Stormy, who turned long walks on the beach into frenzied sprints with lots of digging. Chris and Moriah were married in a small private ceremony on October 12, 2023.
He was passionate about serving members of his community and fiercely dedicated to having the backs of his fellow officers. He always did his job to the best of his abilities and was dedicated to maintaining peak physical fitness to do so by regularly spending time working out despite his hatred for cardio. He started his time with VBPD in the 2nd Precinct and was later transferred to the 4th Precinct where he went through Designated Marksman training and recently applied to join the Crime Suppression Squad.
